Dr. David Straker sees patients primarily by video and phone, with in-person visits available in New York and Boca Raton. His practice combines medication management and psychotherapy with genetic testing, nutrition, sleep, exercise, and supplement guidance — every lever that affects mental health, in one place.
Most psychiatric care stops at a prescription. Dr. Straker's practice is built around the idea that mood, focus, and resilience are shaped by biology, behavior, and daily life in equal measure — so every visit considers all of it.
Careful, ongoing psychopharmacology — starting points chosen deliberately and adjusted as your response and life circumstances change.
Insight-oriented and supportive psychotherapy delivered by the same physician managing your medication, so nothing gets lost between providers.
In-office genetic testing that shows how your body is likely to metabolize different medications, narrowing the guesswork before you start.
Practical nutrition guidance grounded in how food intake affects mood, energy, and medication response over time.
Two of the most under-used psychiatric tools — structured activity and sleep hygiene — built into your plan, not mentioned as an afterthought.
Evidence-informed recommendations on supplements that can complement — never blindly replace — a medical treatment plan.
"I've always believed that medication and psychotherapy work best together — and that neither one works in a vacuum from the rest of a person's life. That's the whole reason I added genetic testing and lifestyle medicine into my own practice, instead of referring it out."
Dr. Straker treats a wide range of psychiatric conditions, with particular experience in mood and anxiety disorders, ADHD, and co-occurring substance use.
Dr. Straker has practiced psychiatry on the Upper East Side of Manhattan for over two decades, serving as an attending psychiatrist at Columbia University Medical Center–NewYork-Presbyterian, with prior staff appointments at Lenox Hill Hospital, White Plains Hospital, and Long Island Jewish Medical Center / North Shore University Hospital.
He is Columbia-trained, with a subspecialty board certification in Psychosomatic Medicine, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (FACLP) and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (DFAPA). He has spoken at numerous Annual Meetings of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (ACLP), lectured to nursing and medical staff, and published in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks — and has been recognized as a New York Super Doctor every year from 2018 through 2026.
His practice is built on the conviction that psychopharmacology and psychotherapy are most effective when delivered together — which is why he performs both in-house, alongside in-office genetic saliva testing to help guide medication choices from the start.
Patients consistently describe him as thorough, direct, and attentive to the full picture: medication, therapy, and the daily habits — food, movement, sleep — that shape how someone feels day to day.
Named a New York Super Doctor nine years running, 2018–2026 — as featured in The New York Times Magazine — recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor, an honor limited to the top 7% of U.S. physicians, and named a Top Doc by Boca Raton Observer.

How care is billed depends on what you're being treated for.
For patients receiving full care — medication management and psychotherapy together — sessions are billed individually per visit, out-of-network. A detailed superbill is provided for insurance reimbursement.
For patients receiving ongoing medication management, annual membership is required. It's built around continuity and direct access, rather than billing visit by visit.
Additional visits are available beyond the four included each year. One visit can also be used as a dedicated lifestyle psychiatry session — covering diet, sleep, exercise, mindfulness, and supplements, entirely your choice.
Membership is required for medication management care; psychotherapy and full-care patients are billed per session. Contact the office for current rates and enrollment details.
Cancellation policy: appointments cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours' notice are billed the full session fee.
Most visits take place by secure video or phone. In-person appointments are available on occasion at both offices below for patients who prefer them.
